Hetzner Introduces Another 20% Price Cut

Web hosting company Hetzner surprised the industry and its clients to months earlier by providing a 44% price cut on its managed server traffic usage rates. Today, the company again pulled out another surprise by reducing the traffic chargers by 20% for Managed dedicated and Truserv users.

The latest price cut will translate to an overall price reduction of 56 percent for all data usage on the company’s dedicated hosting platforms for the past three months.
According to Athena Turner, Marketing and Communications Manager for Hetzner, the company is committed to passing cost-saving benefits as much as possible so clients also get to enjoy more affordable services. As of October 2009, Hetzner has managed to reduce charges for over-usage of traffic for clients using Managed Dedicated and TruServ solutions.
However, Hetzner is not the only web hosting provider that has been introducing discounted prices recently. Afrihost has also slashed the rates on its additional traffic usage. It now charges R45 per gigabyte when it originally charged R80 per gigabyte of additional traffic. The hosting provider also increased its monthly traffic quota for its hosting packages. Moreover, Afrihost has also removed charges on set up and installation for its dedicated server packages.
In a statement released by Afrihost, CEO Gian Visser explains that they have increased the quota for their default monthly traffic for their service packages without implementing changes to monthly costs. For Afrihost’s Platinum packages, default threshold went up by a thousand percent, going from 5 GB to 50 GB.
Web Africa is looking to ride the trend by implementing significant savings for its hosting solutions. According to the Matthew Tagg, the company’s CEO, they are planning on offering cost savings of more than 50% in many of their packages.
The wave of price reductions bod well for Internet and web site environments in South Africa. They cater mainly to the local market because hosting bandwidth is still relatively more expensive in the country.
