Playing Every Hand
You don’t have to win every hand to win at poker online. You don’t have to win most of the hands to win at poker. In fact, I’ve been involved in poker games where the winner only took six or seven pots. It’s not the amount of hands you win when you play poker online, it’s all about how much money you win.
Whether in a cash game or in a tournament, I’ve found a common factor in the majority of the poker games that I play-the more hands I play, the less often I win. It happens over and over again, reinforcing my theory-I will fold hand after hand, wondering when my hand will come in, when I finally get some hole cards that are worth playing. If I play those cards right, the money that I win with that hand will eclipse the blinds that I folded along the way. If you can pass up the small pots for the big ones, you’ll be the big stack in no time. It’s entirely possible to win a tournament by folding the majority of the time and playing only a few hands.
